Education and Training Sites
CLaRI @ The University at Buffalo/SUNY
Students enrolled in master's and doctoral programs at UB or students pursuing post-master's certificates have the opportunity to work with children through the center at UB. In teaching settings, students are expected to video tape their instruction and create reflective cases to improve their instructional methods and to improve learning opportunities for children. Opportunities exist for Master's and Doctoral students to conduct research on reading and writing interventions, reflective teaching and video analysis, multimodal literacy, and related inquiries.
CLaRI @ Windermere Elementary School
Students enrolled in UB master's programs have opportunities to fulfill course work on site at the Windermere Elementary School by providing literacy assessments and instruction for children related to reading or writing. These opportunities are currently related to LAI 556 Classroom Literacy Assessment and LAI 560 Improving Elementary Language Arts Instruction. Opportunities also exist for doctoral students to teach, provide supervision, and to conduct research in this setting.
CLaRI @ Maryvale School District
Students in the Ed.M. Master's Literacy Specialist program which ultimately allows students to apply for reading teacher certification in New York State, complete practicum hours (a state requirement) on site during their school-based practicum. Working with small groups of children and in collaboration with others, UB students assess, plan for instruction, and receive feedback and evaluation from UB faculty and on-site literacy coaches. Opportunities exist for doctoral students to act as supervisors, literacy coaches, and research assistants.
