Spring 2018 Saturday Morning One-to-one Reading & Writing Tutoring

CLaRI’s on-site program “One-to-one Reading & Writing Sessions” is now available on Saturday mornings during spring 2018. This program provides individualized tutoring to children entering Kindergarten through 12th grade. Certified literacy specialists provide weekly, hour-long literacy sessions on Saturday mornings that use authentic literature and research-based practices to tailor instruction to meet each child’s unique literacy and learning needs. We do not use a pre-packaged, publisher-produced, or scripted reading/writing programs, but rather provide individualized instruction in one or all of the following areas: comprehension, fluency, spelling, and writing. While we cannot work on school-assigned homework during tutoring sessions, we can focus instruction on literacy areas the child’s school has indicated are areas of weakness.

Our teachers are all certified NY state teachers and Literacy Specialists. These individuals have tutored for us before as part of our Master’s program and have demonstrated excellent teaching abilities. All of our teachers are caring and qualified literacy teachers who implement best practices and tailor instruction to meet each child’s unique literacy and learning needs.

The last five minutes of every tutoring session is reserved for clinicians to speak to parents about the instruction provided during that lesson, their child’s literacy progress, and, if requested, homework. In addition, after each tutoring session, parents will receive a brief summary sheet that states: what instruction occurred, what the child excelled in, what the child still needs to work on, and, if requested, homework.

Currently, we are taking applications for spring 2017 Saturday morning tutoring. Spring 2017 Saturday morning tutoring runs every Saturday from January 21st to May 13th, except for Saturday, February 25th and Saturday, April 15th for school breaks. We will offer a make-up session, on Saturday, May 20th.

Each session is 60 minutes in length, running from 9:00-10:00, 10:15-11:15, & 11:30-12:30.

The cost per tutoring session is $55. This price covers the individualized, hour-long tutoring session with a certified Literacy Specialist, teacher preparation to create an individualized lesson for each child, use of CLaRI, and use of all CLaRI materials. Children are expected to attend each Saturday session at their assigned time. Refunds will not be given for missed tutoring sessions, without enough prior notice, at least 48 hours, to notify the CLaRI teacher.

Financial assistance is not available for Saturday morning tutoring sessions. Financial assistance is only available for our diagnostic services and our intensive, after-school tutoring. Tuition per child, without homework, is as follows:

January Tuition: $ 165 (3 sessions)
February Tuition: $ 220 (4 sessions)
March Tuition: $ 220 (4 sessions)
April Tuition: $ 220 (4 session)
May Tuition: $ 55 (1 session)

Our teachers work very hard to create individualized instruction to meet the unique literacy needs of each child. Because planning and creating homework requires additional teacher time, homework is an additional cost.
15 minutes each week (extra $5 per session)
30 minutes each week (extra $10 per session)

The application consists of three documents: (1) Registration Form, (2) Academic Information Form, and (3) Payment Form.  All three forms are required to secure a tutoring spot for new families. Returning families only need to complete the registration form to indicate desired time slot and homework preference.
